چکیده

Background The pulmonary circulation is a highly compliant system that generates little resistance to blood flow. However, in the presence of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), blood pressure and vascular resistance in the pulmonary circulation are elevated. This leads to distension and stiffening of the main pulmonary artery (MPA) and vessel wall remodeling, which in itself may influence stiffness [1]. Proximal arterial distensibility is a parameter that depends mainly on the anatomy (geometry) of the vessel and can be estimated noninvasively with cross-sectional imaging techniques. In particular, the relative area change (RAC) of the MPA, which is inversely proportional to arterial stiffness, is a strong predictor of mortality in patients with PAH [2]. The purpose of this study was to compare two non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods for quantification of MPA distensibility using an acute PAH dog model.

Banding Artifact Reduction in 2D CINE Balanced SSFP at 3.0 T Using Phase-Cycling and k-t BLAST

Introduction Balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) offers excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and consistent blood/myocardium contrast which renders 2D CINE bSSFP an ideal clinical choice for LV function assessment [1] at 1.5 T. bSSFP imaging remains challenging at 3.0 T due to its sensitivity to adverse off-resonance effects induced by strong field inhomogeneities at the heart-lung i...

MR phase-contrast imaging in pulmonary hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life-threatening, multifactorial pathophysiological haemodynamic condition, diagnosed when the mean pulmonary arterial pressure equals or exceeds 25 mmHg at rest during right heart catheterization. Cardiac MRI, in general, and MR phase-contrast (PC) imaging, in particular, have emerged as potential techniques for the standardized assessment of cardiovascular fun...

Hyperpolarized (13)C MR Angiography.

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is a non-invasive technology that can be used for diagnosis and monitoring of cardiovascular disease; the number one cause of mortality worldwide. Hyperpolarized imaging agents provide signal enhancement of more than 10, 000 times, which implies large reduction in acquisition time and improved spatial resolution. We review the role of hyperpolarized 13C agen...

Balanced steady state free precession for arterial spin labeling MRI: Initial experience for blood flow mapping in human brain, retina, and kidney.

We implemented pseudo-continuous ASL (pCASL) with 2D and 3D balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) readout for mapping blood flow in the human brain, retina, and kidney, free of distortion and signal dropout, which are typically observed in the most commonly used echo-planar imaging acquisition. High resolution functional brain imaging in the human visual cortex was feasible with 3D bSSF...

Hemodynamic evaluation in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation: 4D flow and 2D phase contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance compared with Doppler echocardiography

BACKGROUND Peak velocity measurements are used to evaluate the significance of stenosis in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation (TGA after ASO). 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) provides 3-directional velocity encoding and full volumetric coverage of the great arteries and may thus improve the hemodynamic evaluation in these patien...
